In 1985, Sisters Rita Prendergast, Rosa Margarita Valdes and Rosalina Acosta went to work with the Aymara and Quechua people of Huancane in the Department of Puno.

As in their other missions, the sisters lived the life of the poor people of the area and taught religion, trained catechists, organized youth groups, developed a parish council, and visited the sick in the hospital and the prisoners in jail.
